How to Bedazzle Your Birthday Candle.
How to Bedazzle Your Birthday Candle.
Plain old birthday candle not enough to celebrate a big birthday? Add a splash of “diva” to your next birthday by bedazzling your candle and letting everyone know you are proud to turn another year older.
Part 1 Preparation.
1. Cover your workspace with butcher paper. Grab a clean bowl and an empty paper plate. You’ll fill the bowl with your Mod Podge and then use the paper plate to catch errant glitter.
2. Pour Mod Podge into the bowl. Have everything ready to go including the glitter bottles (opened), candle unwrapped and paint brush tapped for loose bristles.
Part 2 Adding Mod Podge to the Candle.
1. Cover your candle on one side with the Mod Podge. Dip your paintbrush into the Mod Podge and cover one side of the candle with glue. Work quickly as you don’t want it to dry before adding the glitter.
Part 3 Adding Glitter to the Candle.
1. Sprinkle edible glitter over the candle. Catch any excess on the paper plate. Be sure you cover it well so that no hint of the wax is showing (or areas of the candle you don’t want to show).
2. Tap any excess glitter onto the plate. Recycle for another use. You want full coverage but you probably don’t want glitter to fall from the candle onto your cake (even if you can eat it).
3. Allow the one side to dry. Then repeat the process on the other side of the candle.
4. Finished. Once dried, assemble the candle on the cake.
Tips.
Create a design on your candle using different glitter colors. Paint a design with Mod Podge on the candle, cover with one color of glitter and then allow to dry. Add more sections of Mod Podge to the candle and add different color of glitter.
Avoid getting glue and/or glitter on the actual wick, which could hamper the lighting process.
Add a small sprinkling of edible glitter to your cake or surrounding items to complement your glitter candle.
